Dark Slice: Scan. Shoot. Survive.

A sudden-death survival shooter. Limited vision, enemies from all sides, one touch - you're dead!
How many waves can you survive?

Simple to play, brutal to master. Whether you’re on desktop or mobile, the goal is the same: stay in the light, keep shooting, and see how many waves you can hold back before the system fails.

2. The Arms Race

You start as a fragile, slow-moving node with a weak weapon and tiny flashlight. As you kill enemies, you collect Scrap.

Every kill gives you the currency needed to push back the encroaching dark. Between waves, you can infinitely stack upgrades to your fire rate, damage, and movement speed.

The Infinite Power Creep

Upgrades have no cap. Want increased speed and move at Mach 1? You can. More Vision? Go for it. Want increased damage to one-shot enemies? No problem. Invest how you see fit.

But remember, enemies are doing the same. Every wave increases their speed, health, and numbers. A constant battle to stay ahead of the "Power Curve."

If you spend too much on vision and forget your damage, you’ll see the enemies coming, but you won't be able to stop them. If you focus entirely on damage but neglect your speed, you’ll be a glass cannon that can't outrun the swarm.

This is where the "Simple Game" requires strategy. Build your upgrades carefully.

3. Sudden Death

There is no health bar in Dark Slice. There are no "hearts" or "shield recharges."
One hit and it's Game Over.

This "Sudden Death" mechanic give it tension in higher rounds, things become chaotic, very quickly.

Flip the Switch: Overdrive

When the screen fills up and the ammo runs dry, your Overdrive is your last resort. Filling your kill meter allows you to briefly flood the void with light, granting full vision, triple fire rate, and invincibility. It’s a five-second power trip that can save a failing run.

4. Play Anywhere: Mobile vs. Desktop

Dark Slice supports mobile and desktop browsers with slightly different controls:

On desktop:

  • Movement: Use WASD or Arrow Keys to navigate.
  • Aiming: Use your mouse for high-DPI flicking to catch enemies in your vision cone.
  • Overdrive: Slam the Spacebar to trigger your power-up.
  • Hybrid: Prefer a more relaxed feel? You can also use the mouse to activate an on-screen joystick.

On mobile:

  • Dynamic Joystick: Don't worry about missing a button—a virtual joystick appears wherever you tap on the screen.
  • Overdrive: Trigger your invincibility instantly with a simple two-finger tap.

5. Survival Protocols: Three Tips for High Scores

You don't need a complex manual, but you do need a plan. If you want to survive past Wave 20, follow these three rules:

A. The "Outside Boxer"

Never get pinned in the center. Stay near the edges and constantly sweep your vision cone inward. By "boxing" the map, you keep the majority of the void in front of you, making it much harder for a corruption node to clip your blind spot.

B. Speed is Life

It’s tempting to dump all your scrap into Damage, but a high-powered gun is useless if you're too slow to reposition. Invest in Movement Speed early. It’s the only stat that can physically pull you out of a tight jam when you realize you've been flanked.

C. Resource Rationing

Ammo pickups on the ground don't despawn immediately. If your ammo bar is full, leave it there. Running over a pickup when you’re at 100% is a waste of resources. Save those nodes for when the swarm thickens and you're actually running dry.

Conclusion: How High Can You Get?

The void is waiting. The corruption is coming. The only question left is: How long can you stay in the light?
